The annual mid-winter car owner meetings were held Saturday December 19th. The morning session saw all three sprint car classes in attendance and the afternoon session was for the Outlaw Hornet group. Many Topics were discussed including the new track surface, class rules, format, saftey, better entertainment for the fans, insurance and scheduling.
Track owner Steve Beitler hosted the meeting, "I was pleased with the turnout this close to Christmas. It shows our racers are excited and ready for the 2010 racing season. The fact that we have over 10 new cars coming out this season is also an indicator of the racers commitment to Skagit Speedway and it's loyal fans. We have been working very hard this past fall and into the winter putting together a program that will add more family entertainment to our shows as well as put more money in our racers pockets." Beitler concluded.
Some of the basic rule changes for the 2010 season are:
410 & 360 Sprint classes: All rules will stay the same. The 2009 wing rule will stay in effect for the 2010 season. Both classes will be allowed to use the curved top wing with no wickerbill or the flat top wing with a 1" wickerbill.
Sportsman Sprint class: All 2009 rules will remain in effect with the exception of the following:
Top wing option: You may use a 25 square foot top wing or the standard 16 square foot top wing. Both wings will be a flat top design with no wickerbills.
Adjustable shocks will be allowed on the left rear of the car only. No cockpit adjustable shocks allowed.
There was a discussion on the tire rule for all three classes. We are in contract negotiations with Hoosier and Goodyear for the track tire program. As soon as this is finalized we will notify all teams of the program that will be used at Skagit Speedway.
Outlaw Hornet class: Many items were discussed, clarified and some of the changes that were made:
1) The maximum horsepower is limited to 160. This will be per factory specs. All heads and blocks must have the stock serial numbers on them. The head and block serial numbers shall be of a stock factory combination that was offered from the dealership.
2) No mixing of electronics.
3) No Variable valve timing engines (VTec, ETec, etc).
There will be a minimum weight rule in place for the 2010 season. That will be released as soon as the data is completed.
Also new for 2010 will be double file restarts. This is a result of all the teams present agreeing to use raceivers next year so thay can hear the lineups.
The complete rule books for all classes will be updated on the website in January.
