OPEN WHEEL SHOWDOWN AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY: SATURDAY, MAY 10TH
Alger, WA—It's time for an open-wheel showdown this Saturday, May 10th, at Skagit Speedway. Join us for the first of only three times that the KarMART 410 Sprint Cars are joined by the 360 Sprint Cars. Both classes will also be joined by the IMCA Modifieds for their third weekend in a row before some time off.
The KarMART 410 Sprint Cars come back to Skagit Speedway after kicking off the 2025 race season two weeks ago! Trey Starks picked up the win on opening night after leading all 30 laps. Starks backed it up with a second-place finish during the first 360 race of the year last Saturday, May 3rd. Colby Thornhill fended off Starks to come home with his first win this season at Skagit Speedway in the 360. Thornhill was part of the trio that shutout Starks during the first doubleheader race of 2024 on May 11th.
The win a year ago was Thornhills first at Skagit Speedway in the KarMART 410 Sprint Cars, and joining him on the podium was Landon Brooks in second place and Lane Taylor in third. Starks was held to fourth after moving up from sixth. Starks leads the 2025 410 drivers points over Jason Solwold and Robbie Price.
Thornhill won the first 360-race of the year this year at Skagit Speedway after getting by Colton Heath during the second try to start the race. The Enumclaw, WA native sliced and diced through lap traffic and held off Starks on two late-race restarts to win the race. Starks swept the night a year ago in the 360 during the first doubleheader race of 2024.
The pilot of the 55 was quick time in qualifying, won his heat from fourth, and won the feature from third. Cam Smith and Thornhill were second and third, respectively. Thornhill led the first six laps before Starks got by, after that, Starks and Smith battled for the top spot, but Starks held off Smith's advances for the lead. Starks also holds the top spot in the 2025 360 drivers' points battle. He leads by three points over Thornhill and by 11 over Solwold.
The IMCA Modifieds make their third appearance in a row this Saturday at Skagit Speedway. It will also be their last appearance for over a month, they won't make their return until June 14th. Through two races, there have been two different winners; Jeff Westergard won opening night, while Geoff Morris won night two. Morris inherited the lead after leader Ben Gunderson had to pull off due to right front tire issues. Morris led from lap three onward despite Westergard throwing everything he had at him in the closing laps to get by. James Bundy finished third.
The IMCA Modifieds were part of the first 410, 360 Sprint Car doubleheader night held last year; however, Tyson Blood was victorious in that race over Ben Gunderson and Branden Nutter. Westergard leads the 2025 drivers points over Bundy in second and Kevin Smith in third.
