Summer Nationals Win to Starks

Alger, WA - Trey Starks emerged from the 2022 Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals $10,000 richer after leading all 36 laps of the main event at Skagit Speedway on Saturday night. The win was Starks’ first in the 32 year history of the race.

Starks and Justin Sanders sat on the front row of the main event and at the drop of the green flag, it was Trey bursting to the front of the field and establishing a solid advantage. A lap four yellow for Lane Taylor bunched the field, and on the restart, Starks once again jetted out to a huge lead. Starks would absolutely carve through lapped traffic, dicing and slicing through slower traffic, lapping all the way through ninth place on the field before a lap 32 caution for Tyler Thompson brought the field together for one last green flag run. Tanner Holmes had worked his way from fifth to second by that time, and on the restart, showed speed on the low side of turns one and two. Starks missed the cushion a little on corner exit on the 34th and 35th lap, giving Holmes a shot down low coming to the white flag. Tanner put together one more strong run, but the night and the weekend belonged to Starks, who drove hard around the top of turns three and four to secure the victory. Holmes would secure a solid second place finish while Sanders took home third. Brock Lemley was hard charger, coming from the B Main to start 21st and finishing 6th. The top four in points from the previous night’s show locked into the pole shuffle - the remaining 33 cars ran full qualifying and heat races, with points going towards starting position for the A and B mains, as well as two additional spots in the pole shuffle. Chase Goetz was fast time. Colton Heath, Lemley, Eric Fisher and Ashleigh Johnson won the heat races. Colby Thornhill and Logan Forler were the last two lockins to the pole shuffle, joining Starks, Sanders, Jason Solwold and Holmes from the previous night.

For the second straight night,Jayme Barnes dominated the Herz Precision Parts Wingless Sprint Series main event. Barnes led all 25 laps of the feature, with Eric Turner and Alex Hantel rounding out the podium. Hantel was the fast qualifier, while Turner won the heat race.

The Hornet Nationals A Main presented by Cascade Pizza was one for the ages, with Adam Holtrop and Trent Gillespie ending up duking it out for the win. Megan White led the first eight laps before Holtrop overtook her on a restart, with Gillespie taking second just a few short laps later. The pair ran in tight unison for the rest of the race, running each other clean as a whistle while vying for the win. In the end. Gillespie, in just his second race on dirt, made the pass on Adam with two laps to go to secure the victory, with Holtrop and White ending up second and third. Holtrop also won a heat race, as did Colin Sims.
