YOUNGQUIST WINS SPORTSMAN SPRINT SHOWDOWN

Alger, WA – Saturday night saw the biggest race of the year for the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints go to Justin Youngquist, who led all 30 laps of the R&H Mechanical Sportsman Sprint Showdown at Skagit Speedway. Capping a fun night of racing ahead of next week’s 49th running of the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup, Youngquist was joined in victory lane by Rick Smith and Zach Dalrymple.

The Sportsman Sprints went 30 laps in their A Main with additional purse and prizes on the line, and when the dust settled it was Youngquist leading the whole distance. He was caught and pressured a little in slower traffic by Evan Margeson, but each time Justin had the right move up his sleeve to maintain his lead and take the big win. Margeson’s first night subbing for the injured Kelsey Carpenter went well, as he finished second and set quick time. Eric Turner won a heat race and ran third. Bill Rude won the other heat and Jesson Jacobson won the dash.

Rick Smith and Craig Moore must have felt like they were joined at the hip all night in the Skagit Aggregates Modifieds. Both drivers won their heats and then ran 1-2 in the main event, with Smith getting his second win in a row and of the year, while Moore ran second at about 2-3 car lengths back from Rick all race long. Adam Holtrop ran third.

Zach Dalrymple won his first feature of the year at Skagit Speedway in the Outlaw Tuners, leading all 17 lap of the main. Colin Sims and Max Sanford rounded out the podium after a spirited battle for position. Sims was a heat race winner along with Mike Macpherson.
