Starks Selects Dominic Scelzi to Race for Team This Week as Family Grows

Inside Line Promotions – PUYALLUP, Wash. (Aug. 12, 2024) – Trey Starks has chosen Dominic Scelzi as a fill-in driver for this Saturday’s event at Skagit Speedway.

Starks and his wife, Ally, are expecting their son to be born this week so the focus shifts to the growing family. Scelzi, a long-time friend, is flying in from California Saturday morning to drive for Starks in both the 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car divisions at the high-banked track in Alger, Wash.

“With everything that is going on it’s best to bring someone else in and who better than Dominic,” Starks said. “I did this for him essentially for his second kid even though he ended up still running. I can’t think of anybody else I’d have do this.”

Starks leads the 410 sprint car championship standings by 46 points and the 360 sprint car championship standings by 100 points.

“It’s a race we can’t miss,” he said. “This is one of two or three weekends where they do this running both classes. I don’t know if that (running the 360 division) was necessarily our goal to start. I guess if we weren’t leading the 360 points it wouldn’t be something we’d worry about. We’ve done so well in that class this year it’s something we’re sticking with. It’ll be an exciting week all around.”

Starks is the leading feature winner at the track this year as he has captured a division-best three 410 sprint car wins, a division-best four 360 sprint car victories and even a sportsman sprint car triumph.

Scelzi recently finished fifth at the track during the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals – an event he won in 2023.
