STARKS SCORES WIN AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY OPENER

Alger, WA - A packed house for the 71st Season Opener at Skagit Speedway saw Trey Starks win for the 13th time since 2012 in the Karmart USA 410 Sprint Cars. Jesson Jacobson won the first main event of the year in the Sportsman Sprints and Jeff Westergard opened defense of his IMCA Modified championship with a feature win.

The main event looked like a video game set to easy mode for Starks who led every lap of the Karmart USA 410 Sprint Cars feature by a comfortable margin. The win netted the Puyallup, WA driver a $5,000 payday. Jason Solwold was second while Joel Myers Jr took third. Robbie Price of Cobble Hill, BC set fast time on the night with a lap of 11.365 seconds. Heat race winners were Justin Youngquist, Starks and Eric Fisher.

It was a battle of the young guns up front in the Sportsman Sprint main event. Jesson Jacobson led the first ten laps before Macie Logsdon, in just her second Skagit Speedway race, passed him in traffic to take the top spot on lap 11. Jacobson was undeterred, rolling his way back forward and in lapped traffic, passed Macie back to retake the top spot on lap 21. He would lead the final few circuits for his third career win, with Jayden Whitney racing into second place late and Logsdon taking third. Heat wins went to Keira Zylstra and Jacobson with rookie Jailynn Serrano setting quick time at 12.609.

Jeff Westergard opened defense of his track championship in the IMCA Modifieds with a win on opening night at Skagit Speedway. Westergard found room underneath race leader Adam Holtrop on lap 16 to take the lead and went the rest of the way for the victory. Holtrop and James Bundy had a great battle for second place with Adam holding off James at the end for second. Westergard, Kevin Smith and Geoff Morris were heat race winners.

59 cars total signed in for competition with the checkered flag on the night falling at 10:20pm.
