JOHN CARROLL CLASSIC & FIREWORKS SHOW - Presented by Skagit Farmers Supply
Alger, WA – After wet weather canceled racing a weekend ago, fireworks will light up the sky this Saturday, May 24th, at Skagit Speedway. Join us for the John Carroll Classic Presented by Skagit Farmers Supply. The KarMART 410 Sprint Cars are back in action, and joining them are the Sportsman Sprint Cars and the season debut of the CGE Skagit Midgets.
After last weekend's rainout, points have not changed for either the KarMART 410 Sprint Cars or the Sportsman Sprint Cars—both classes were scheduled to race during last weekend's Armed Forces Night but did not.
Still, through two completed KarMART 410 races at Skagit Speedway, one man has won both — the driver from Puyallup, WA, Trey Starks. Starks won on opening night after starting on the pole and led all 30 laps with ease. He backed up his opening night performance on Saturday, May 10th, with another win. Starks started on the pole, but Robbie Price led the opening six laps until a caution flag brought the field back together. Starks made his move on the ensuing restart and went on to lead the rest of the way – the win was the 15th of his career at Skagit Speedway. Starks leads the drivers' points battle by six points over second place Jason Solwold, who finished second on opening night and third on May 10th. Price sits 16 points behind Starks in third and was fourth on opening night and second on May 10th.
The last time the Sportsman Sprint Cars hit the track was opening night, just shy of a month ago and Jesson Jacobson was victorious. Macie Logsdon got by Jacobson to take the lead on lap 11 in lap traffic, but Jacobson found his way back around Logsdon on lap 21. Jacobson secured the victory while Logsdon fell back to third as Jayden Whitney got around her late. The drivers' points battle reads in a similar order: Jacobson with a 10-point lead over Whitney in second, and a 13-point lead over Logsdon in third.
Last year and in years prior, any time the Midgets came to Skagit Speedway, they were under the banner of the Northwest Focus Midgets. However, that is not the case this year. Now officially part of the Skagit Speedway divisions, the CGE Garage Midgets will see an increase from $500 to $1000 to win, thank you to CGE Garage. Additionally, positions 2nd through 24th will receive increased payouts, ensuring a more equitable distribution of rewards and encouraging broader participation within this class.
Under the umbrella of the Northwest Focus Midget Series, Alex Peck was the Skagit Speedway Track Champion in 2024, finishing with 600 points, which was seven points greater than second place Nick Evans and 23 points ahead of third place Jared Peterson. Peck had one win, seven top fives, and seven top 10s in seven features raced. Evans also had one win, six top fives, and seven top 10s in seven features. Peterson was the winningest driver of the field at Skagit Speedway with three wins, but only had six top fives and six top 10s in seven features
