OPEN WHEEL MAYHEM: 410 SPRINT CARS, 360 SPRINT CARS AND MIDGETS!

For the second time this year, it's a 410, 360 double header at Skagit Speedway. Join us this Saturday, May 31, for the KarMART 410 Sprint Cars, the 360 Sprint Cars, and the CGE Garage Midgets.

The last time both the 410s and 360s threw down on the same night was earlier this month on May 10. Trey Starks was victorious, winning both the main events, but was challenged, first by Robbie Price in the 410, then by both Cam Smith and Jesse Schlotfeld in the 360. Starks used similar methods to get by both drivers by taking advantage of restarts to make the winning pass.

Last Saturday, May 24, did not reap the same reward for Starks, as his perfect two-for-two winning streak ended after he finished fifth behind Hank Davis; however, the night proved rewarding for Schlotfeldt. Starks was quicktime, but Schlotfeldt won his heat race and started second in the feature and never looked back. Schlotfeldt lapped through eighth place and never wavered, leading all 30 laps in dominating fashion. What was more impressive, too, was the fact that Schlotfeldt had just won the night before at Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg, OR in the 360 Sprint Car. He and his team then made the seven hour drive back to Skagit and won in the 410 before heading back to Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, OR to run the 360 on Sunday night, where he finished sixth. Starks still holds onto the point lead; however, his lead has shrunk from six points to only three over second-place Jason Solwold. Meanwhile, Robbie Price has lost some ground and now sits 22 points behind, having been just 16 points back. Solwold has yet to finish outside the top five in the three 410 features run at Skagit Speedway. The driver of the 18 has finished second twice and third once.

The 360 Sprint Cars are back this weekend after a two-week break; this race also marks the start of a three-race weekend stretch for the 360s leading into Dirt Cup. The last time the 360 Sprint Cars visited Skagit Speedway was the doubleheader weekend back on May 10, which Starks won. Starks got the lead on lap eight after passing Smith but was later passed himself by Schlotfeldt on lap 18 in traffic. The 55 of Starks got a break with a late-race restart that allowed him to get the lead back. That win was his first 360 win of the year and 21st career 360 win at Skagit Speedway. Colby Thornhill is the only other winner in the 360 class, and he won their opening night on May 3. Thornhill beat Colton Heath on the second try to start the race and went on to lead the rest of the way to secure the victory. Starks leads the 360 points battle by 19 points over second-place Thornhill and by 22 points over third-place Schlotfeldt.

The CGE Garage Midgets made their Skagit Speedway debut last Saturday, with Shane Smith completing a clean sweep to get the opening night victory. Smith was quicktime in qualifying, won his heat race, and led all 25 laps of the feature event to go home victorious. Despite an "easy" sounding night, it was anything but that in the A-Main. Alex Peck hounded the back bumper of the number seven machine but was never able to get by him. Smith leads the points by eight over Peck in second and by 11 points over Nick Evans in third. The order reads the same as it did when they finished on the podium after their first race of the year.
