410's ARE BACK THIS SATURDAY!
Although the 53rd Annual Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup, Presented by Angel of the Winds Casino Resort, has come to a close, the racing action at Skagit Speedway is just heating up. The KarMART USA 410 Sprint Cars are back and ready to battle once again, joined by the Sportsman Sprint Cars and the Hornets.
Trey Starks was victorious over the weekend, taking home his first ever six-figure payday – $111,626.26 to be exact – during the Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup feature on Saturday, June 21. Starks got the lead early on the third attempt to start the A-Main; however, he did not run away and hide. Lap traffic came quickly, forcing Starks to get to work while Tanner Holmes got set to track him down after passing James McFadden. Holmes bested Starks on lap 14, but after a red flag and a fuel stop on lap 17, Starks was able to get by a lap later. With traffic clearing relatively easy in front of Starks, the race was his as he cruised onto his first Dirt Cup win.
Starks has won three races this year in the 410 division and leads the driver's points with 750 total, 37 points ahead of second-place Jason Solwold and Justin Youngquist, who is 120 points behind first place in third. All three have raced in seven features at Skagit Speedway. Trey also has five top fives, and six top 10s.
The Sportsman Sprint Cars are back again after their doubleheader weekend leading into Dirt Cup. Macie Logsdon picked up her first Skagit Speedway win during the Saturday June 14 portion of the show, while Jayden Whitney picked up his first win on Father's Day Sunday – June 15. Logsdon inherited the lead after Alden Ostrom wrecked, and Jacobson, who was in second, had to swap out a flat rear tire. Macie went on to lead the rest of the race with little issue. On Sunday Whitney battled with Dana Glenn early but was able to get around him on lap four and ran away after that en route to his first win.
Whitney leads the points with 550, followed by second-place Jacobson, who is eight points back, and Logsdon in third, 56 points back. Through five features raced for all three of the drivers, Whitney is the only one to have a perfect five for five in top-five finishes. Jacobson has three top fives and four top 10s, while Logsdon has two top fives and four top 10s.
The Hornets also return this Saturday, following their appearance as part of the Sunday Father's Day show. Colin Smith led every lap of the shortened A-Main event due to cautions and a multi-car rollover. Howard Vos leads the Hornets in points with 228; second place is Raven Skaugrud, who is 18 points back, and 42 points behind is Braxton Housman in third. Both Vos and Skaugrud have yet to finish outside the top five in the two features that have been run so far.
