DOMINANT WIN FOR HEATH ON BREAST CANCER AWARENESS NIGHT

Skagit Speedway hosted Breast Cancer Awareness Night for the second straight year and as the dust settled on the 30 lap 360 Main Event, Colton Heath hoisted the X Out Breast Cancer Bowling Ball trophy donated by Rick Wilskey as the race winner.

Levi Hillier set out from the outside of the front row and was out to win this race for the second straight year, fearlessly darting through traffic in the early stages of the main with polesitter Trey Starks and Colton Heath trying to match moves with him. Heath passed Starks for second on lap four and was keeping Hillier close until Starks slowed to a stop after his muffler came off on lap 11. On the ensuing restart, Heath passed Hillier for the lead using the slow side of the speedway and started stretching his advantage as the laps ticked away. At the final flag, Heath had built a 3.5 second advantage as he scored the win, over Hillier in second place and Jason Solwold who came out on top of a back and forth battle with Jesse Schlotfeldt for third. Starks set quick time and won his heat race with Heath winning heat race number 2.

It was a barnburner of a race up front in the IMCA Modifieds. Rick Smith held the lead until lap 17 when Cole Logan, his former crew guy running Rick’s old car, took the lead from him around the top side. Logan would hold the lead for two laps before Smith came storming back down low, retaking the top spot on lap 19. Smith would then keep defending track champion Jeff Westergard from sneaking past him to take the victory in just his second race back after undertaking open heart surgery four months ago. Westergard would take second after starting 14th while Logan ran third. Smith also won his heat race, as did Ben Gunderson.

Steven Hendrickson won the Sportsman Sprint main event for the third time on the season. He led every lap of the shortened main event, which hit its time limit after a number of yellow flags. Hendrickson made it a clean sweep of the night, setting quick time and winning heat race number one. Dana Glenn was second in the main event while Alden Ostrom was third. Ostrom won heat race number two while Jesson Jacobson won heat race three.

The final checkered flag of the night fell at 10:16pm. 56 cars signed in for competition.
