ALL PHASE HEATING & AC NIGHT!
After Mother Nature hampered the fun last weekend, we are racing again this Saturday, Aug. 23, at Skagit Speedway for All Phase Heating & Air Conditioning Night. The 360 Sprint Cars are back, along with the Sportsman Sprint Cars, and the CGE Garage Midgets. This will be the last points race for all three divisions before Season Championship Night.
The 360 Sprint Cars are ready to race again after being rained out last weekend and haven't raced since Aug. 2 during Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Heath notched another win that night and picked up his first Skagit Speedway 360 Sprint Car win of the year. The win didn't come easily for Heath as he had to battle with Levi Hillier to start the race. Hillier started second with Starks to his inside, and after beating Starks on the start of the race, the 26 car led the opening 11 laps.
Heath and Hillier battled until just before the halfway point when Heath was able to make the pass stick, finally, and as the caution flag flew, Heath's race lead was cemented. Heath pulled away from the field and went on to lead the rest of the way. Starks leads the 360-point battle with 994 total points. Jason Solwold is in second with 917 (-77) points, and Heath is in third with 904 (-90) points.
In nine total races this year for the 360s at Skagit Speedway, Starks, Solwold, and Heath have all finished inside the top 10 in eight of nine. Stark and Heath both have seven top fives, while Solwold has five.
The Sportsman Sprint Cars are back this weekend at Skagit Speedway after last racing on Aug. 2 during Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Steven Hendrickson notched his third win of the year after leading every lap of a time-shortened race. While Hendrickson ran away with the race, the battle heated up behind him. Jesson Jacobson and Jayden Whitney were tied for the lead in the division points and waged war with each other for position and the overall lead in the standings. Jacobson was caught in an incident at the end of the race, which forced him to go to the rear and finish 16th, ultimately hurting his overall points scored for the night. Whitney assumes the overall lead in the points battle now with 855 points, Hendrickson is in second place with 838 (-17) points, and Jacobson is in third with 835 (-20) points.
It's been over a month since the CGE Garage Midgets have raced at Skagit Speedway. They last ran July 12, during Hall of Fame night, and Shane Smith picked up his sixth career win and second of the year. Smith led all 25 laps with Alex Peck right on his back bumper; however, he was never able to get around. Smith leads the points battle with 602, Ryan Orchard sits second with 580 (-22) points, and Nick Evans is third with 547 (-55) points. Smith has yet to finish outside the top five in six total races run this year, and Orchard has four top fives but has yet to finish outside the top 10 in six races.
