410 Sprint Car Racing returns to Skagit Speedway after the $126,000 to win Skagit Nationals Aug. 28-30. Only two races remain for the 410s this season, making the points battle still highly contested. The three days of racing resulted in a swing in the KarMART USA 410 point standings. For the first time this year, Trey Starks is not the points leader. Jason Solwold takes the points lead with 1,182 total points; Starks falls to second but is only five points back with 1,177 points. Robbie Price is third with 1,056 (-126) points.
This year the Season Championship, presented by The Skagit Casino Resort is split between two nights with the 410 Sprint Cars running on Saturday Sept. 20. That night will be just like any other night of racing with 125 total points on the line to a driver who can score a perfect night. A perfect night is categorized as QuickTime in qualifying (15 points), winning your Heat Race (10 points), and winning the A-Main (100 points). These next races are important in deciding who will win the points battle. Will Solwold pick up his second 410 points championship or will Trey Starks deny him of that opportunity, and achieve his third 410 championship, you’ll have to be here to find out.
The IMCA Modifieds are back Sept. 13 after last racing Aug. 2 during Breast Cancer Awareness Night. They will now run every weekend from Nelson Reisner Night to the end of the Skagit Speedway Schedule. Rick Smith was the winner on Breast Cancer Awareness night after starting in the pole position and leading all but two laps. Cole Logan passed Smith during the middle point of the race, but that didn't last long, as the 8W recaptured the top spot. Points leader Jeff Westergard drove from 14th to second, passing Logan and relegating him to a third-place finish.
Westergard leads the points battle with 230 total points, Adam Holtrop is second with 218 (-12) points, and Logan is third with 214 (-16) points. Logan and Westergard are tied for the most wins in the division with two. Westergard has only finished outside the top-five one time this year, and on that night, he finished eighth – he has yet to miss the top-10.
The Hornets return to racing Sept. 13, they were scheduled to race Aug. 16, but that night was rained out. Howard Vos is the most recent winner in the division, tying him and Steve Peters with two wins a piece. Vos leads the points battle with 678 points over second place Bryce Kolar, who has 563 (-115) points, and Braxton Housman, is third with 537 (-141) points. The Hornets have raced six times total this year at Skagit and Vos has yet to finish outside the top five while Kolar has yet to finish outside the top 10 in the five features he has raced in.
