FIRST 410 WIN FOR YOUNGQUIST AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY
Alger, WA - A career that started 15 years ago at Skagit Speedway reached a new pinnacle on Saturday night as one day before his 30th birthday, Justin Youngquist won his first career Karmart USA 410 Sprint Car main event. Trey Starks and Tristin Thomas joined him as winners on the evening.
Robbie Price set out to the initial lead in the Karmart USA 410 Sprint Car main and looked unbeatable as he built a full straightaway advantage in just a few laps, Youngquist sat in second and as Robbie got to traffic, narrowed on him slightly but not enough to ever make Price sweat. Disaster struck on lap 15 as Axel Oudman took a hard tumble, bringing out a red flag. On the ensuing restart, Youngquist soared past Price as Robbie appeared to be losing speed, bringing out a caution on lap 19 and ending his run toward the top of the field. Youngquist brought the field back to green with 11 to go with a hungry Trey Starks on his heels and kept the former track champion away to collect the victory in the Dynes Racing machine, with Starks taking second and Colton Heath running third. Jason Solwold was quick time. Heat wins went to Heath and Price.
Price was also in control of the 360 feature before one bad corner rewrote the story. Taking the lead from Colton Heath on lap three, Robbie was dynamite in carving through slower traffic throughout the course of the uninterrupted 25 lap main, but on the final lap, he rolled the car high around turn three, allowing Trey Starks a shot at dive bombng the bottom of the track. The move stuck for Trey and finding enough forward bite coming off the corner, Starks shot to the lead and stole the win from Price. The final podium was Starks, Price and Heath. Colton set quick time and won his heat race, ending up two spots away from a sweep of the evening. Jesse Schlotfeldt and Colby Thornhill won the other two heat races.
The CGE Garage Midgets were back in action for the first round of their Summer Challenge Series. The main event battle came down to Shane Smith and Tristin Thomas battling nose to tail for nearly 25 laps. Smith led the first 22 circuits before an aggressive move to the low side of turn three on lap 23 netted Thomas the lead and eventual lead. Smith settled for runner up while Ashley Thompson came from seventh to third. Smith was quick time. Heat wins went to Thomas, Michael Vollbrecht and Nick Evans.
64 cars signed in for competition with the checkered flag falling on the night at 9:43p.
